Bohs Women’s Premier Division Team encourage women to get behind the wheel at Dublin Bus Open Days

Dublin Bus and Bohemian Football Club’s Women’s Premier Division Team are inviting women to sign up to recruitment open days taking place in May. The open days are designed to give candidates firsthand experience of what it's like to work as a bus driver at Dublin Bus, including the chance to get behind the wheel of a double deck bus.

Bohs Women’s Premier Division Team players got the opportunity to drive a training bus with a Dublin Bus professional driving instructor to demonstrate that driving a bus is easier than it looks.

Team Goalkeeper and Captain, Rachael Kelly, explained ‘Unfortunately, misconceptions still exist about women in sport, as well as careers that were traditionally considered for men. We are well used to challenging gender stereotypes, so I was eager to get into the driving seat along with some of my teammates. It was empowering and not as difficult as I anticipated. I’d encourage any woman who is considering it to just go for it and sign up at www.dublinbus.ie/careers’.

Following on from the success of last year’s More Mná recruitment campaign, the number of female drivers increased by 33% between February 2024 and February 2025.  Women now make up 7.7% of bus drivers. Vivienne Kavanagh, Dublin Bus Talent Development and Diversity Manager, said: “We are proud of how far we have come. The change is evident in the number of female bus drivers that have joined our team but we want to continue to be a force for change and to empower women to pursue any careers they want. I encourage anyone interested to take that first step and register to attend our open days”.

Open Day dates are: 

  • Saturday, 3 May 2025.
  • Saturday, 24 May 2025.
