Flora Women’s Mini Marathon
Published on Wednesday, May 30, 2012
Dublin Bus works with Flora Women’s Mini Marathon to make the day a success.
Each year, Dublin Bus works with the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon team in the run up to the annual event in order to ensure the day is a success for all involved. Planning for the event begins months beforehand and involves a number of agencies in Dublin city including other public transport operators, Dublin City Council and An Garda Síochána together with the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon team.
The priority for Dublin Bus is to provide the best possible service for all; both the marathon participants and customers wishing to travel into the city centre during the race.
Each year, diversions are put in place on two corridors in the Dublin Bus network, the Rock Road and Stillorgan Dual Carriageway. These corridors service Dublin Bus routes from the South East of the city such as Routes 145 and 46a. Before the race begins, signs are posted at all bus stops along the racing route informing customers of the alternative routing. Messages are also posted on the Real Time Passenger display units on street.
During the race, Dublin Bus Chief Inspectors will work with An Garda Síochána as roads are reopened by them to gradually restore services to normal routing. The inspectors will communicate the road openings to Dublin Bus’ Central Control who then communicate to the drivers on each route. Each bus can be monitored from Central Control through an Automated Vehicle Location Control system and traffic screens which display streets throughout Dublin city.
Details on Dublin Bus services on the day will be available on www.dublinbus.ie and will be announced through the Twitter and Facebook pages (@dublinbusnews). Dublin Bus would like to wish all this year’s participants good luck on June 4th.
