Children paint a bright future with Dublin Bus

Over 100 primary school students from the Mid West of Dublin attended the first of the 2015 Dublin Bus Children’s Art Competition Awards at City Services Social Club, Clondalkin.

The art competition is part of an overall campaign by Dublin Bus to promote the concept of respecting public transport amongst school children. A total of three regional ceremonies will take place throughout the week to celebrate the efforts of the children who took part in the competition which ran throughout the month of April.

Pupils from St. Gabriel's Primary School, Jessica Doyle, Joss Kelly, Sophie Burke and Sophia Regan, (back) Garda Kevin Byrne Community Garda from Ronanstown Station, Alan Silver Schools and Community Co-Ordinator, Dublin Bus, Garda Bob Donner from Ronanstown Station, David Kavanagh from Dublin Fire Brigade Tara Street Station and Viv Powney from Glanmore Foods.

Each year Dublin Bus School Co-ordinators visit schools, based within the individual catchment areas, relaying the message to young people how to use and respect public transport in their respective areas. The theme for this year’s competition was “DUBLIN BUS IS AT THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY”. Since its inception, the annual Children’s Art Competition has gone from strength to strength and this year saw 26 primary schools across the Greater Dublin Area entering the competition.

Commenting on today’s awards ceremony, Maria Brennan, Media and Communications Manager, Dublin Bus, said, “Dublin Bus serves the local community and we are fully committed to our passengers including the passengers of tomorrow. The annual art competition helps these children to learn the benefits of public transport in their area while developing their artistic skills and most of all having fun.”

The winning students from each participating school receive prizes at each ceremony and a selection of the winning entries will be published in a 2016 Dublin Bus calendar, at the end of the year, which is distributed amongst the participating schools, Dublin Bus employees and elected representatives in the Greater Dublin Area. Copies will also be available to the public from Dublin Bus Headquarters in O’Connell Street.
