Dublin Bus launches Free Wi-Fi across the city

Dublin Bus has announced that free wireless internet access for all passengers is now available across its entire fleet of 917 buses. The Dublin Bus free Wi-Fi service provides passengers with fast and reliable internet access on all journeys whether it’s a quick hop across the city or a longer commute into work. All Dublin Bus passengers can now connect with the world outside their bus without the worry that they will use up their valuable data package.

Currently there are 400,000 journeys daily on Dublin Bus and passengers can access free wireless internet on their phone, tablets or laptops at the touch of a button. Dublin Bus first  began trialling free Wi-Fi on ten routes in 2012 and now just two short years later the service has been rolled out to include every bus in the fleet. The roll-out of free Wi-Fi on all buses has been funded by the National Transport Authority.

To date, 540,000 customers have signed up to the service and have used it 7.4 million times. The average usage time online is thirty minutes and over 90% of the bus fleet is 4G enabled. Customers under the age of 25 are currently the most frequent Wi-Fi users on Dublin Bus and the service is the most popular subject talked about on Dublin Bus’ social media accounts.

Dublin Bus CEO, Paddy Doherty said “Dublin Bus is continually looking at ways of improving the service for passengers so we are pleased to say that the full fleet is now Wi-Fi enabled. We hope this latest improvement will enhance the customer experience for our valued passengers. Since we first trialled Wi-Fi, the service has proved incredibly popular with passengers so we are delighted to extend the service to the full fleet and help Dubliners stay up to date and connected on every journey with us.”
