Finglas West and South FAQ's
Following a period of consultation Dublin Bus is please to announce proposed service changes in Finglas West and South, covering route 17a/40/40a/40d & 220. These changes are part of Network Direct, a redesign of bus services in Dublin City.
What does Network Direct mean for you?
Implementation will provide the South and West Finglas areas with more direct, high frequency and punctual bus services with improved cross city connections.
Quicker journey times
Quicker journey times to key destinations including O'Connell Street, Dame Street, Christchurch and St. James Hospital.
High frequency services
· Route 40 will have peak weekday frequencies of 10 minutes or better.
Improved connections for customers
- Route 40 and 40a will be amalgamated and operate as route 40. It will provide a high frequency cross city connection to O'Connell Street, Dame Street, St. James's Hospital, Inchicore, Ballyfermot and Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. Route 40 will continue to provide services to Toberburr
- Route 17a will be amalgamated with route 220 and provide a high frequency connection between Blanchardstown and Kilbarrack connecting Finglas with The Blanchardstown Centre, Connolly Hospital, Ballycoolin, Ballymun, Santry, Beaumont Hospital and Howth Junction DART.
- Route 40d will continue to connect Tyrrelstown, Ballycoolin and Finglas with Drumcondra and Parnell Street. It will now operate via Mellowes Road improving journey times to the city centre.
Route Improvements
Route 17a/220 will be amalgamated. It will be more direct and will operate from Kilbarrack to The Blanchardstown Centre. It will operate every 10 minutes at peak times toward The Blanchardstown Centre in the mornings with a 20 minute service throughout the day. The current 17a alignment will be unchanged. Route 220 will no longer operate.
Route 40 will operate from Finglas Village to Finglas West and Finglas South before operating to the City Centre and Dame Street, St. James's Hospital, Thomas Street to Liffey Valley. This will provide a much improved cross city connection from the whole Finglas area. Increase levels of service between Finglas West and South Finglas will be provided to Finglas Village with the proposed services.
Journey times will now be significantly improved with trips to the city centre from Finglas taking on average less than 30 minutes. Route 40 will continue to provide services to Toberburr.
Route 40d will operate from Tyrrelstown via Ballycoolin and Mellowes Road to Finglas Village and the N2 to the city centre. This will improve the journey times between Ballycoolin / Tyrrellstown and the city centre.
Route 40 & 40d will in future operate via Parnell Square West to Dorset Street.
