Following a period of consultation Dublin Bus is pleased to announce revised proposals for services in Ballyfermot & North Clondalkin covering the existing routes 18/26/78/78a/79/79a/76/76a/76b and 210. These changes are part of Network Direct, a redesign of bus services in Dublin City.

Key changes to initial proposals as follows:
Route 76/a/b will be renamed route 76/a and will operate from The Square and Clondalkin to both Ballyfermot, Chapelizod and Blanchardstown. As a result of this revision route 26 will be realigned away from Ballyfermot and will in future operate from Kennelsfort Road Upper (Palmerstown Cemetery) via the N4, Chapelizod and Parkgate Street to Merrion Square.

More Frequent Services
Two core routes, Routes 40 and 79 will have peak frequencies of 10 minutes or better.

Improved Timetables
All our timetables will be redesigned, easier to understand and at consistent times past each hour. Timetables will also have intermediate timing points to make it easier to plan your journey e.g. Route 40 will have a dedicated departure time from D’Olier Street operating towards Ballyfermot with Real Time Passenger Information units installed at the bus stop.

Route Improvements

  • Routes 78 and 78a will be called Route 40. Proposed Route 40 will be a high frequency route operating every 10 minutes at peak times. It will be extended from Ballyfermot to the north of the city offering new connections to Henry Street, O’Connell Street, the Mater Hospital, Dorset Street, Drumcondra, Phibsboro and Finglas, serving Dame Street in both directions. It will provide a quicker, more direct service benefitting from the priority of the College Green Bus Corridor in both directions.

  • Route 79 & 79a will be amalgamated as a revised 79and will operate from Parkwest to Beaumont Hospital via Spiddal Park, Heuston Rail Station, etc. As it stands, Route 79a serves Parkwest and Route 79 serves Spiddal Park, but the revised Route 79 will serve both.

  • Route 18 will be extended from Sandymount to the Docklands / IFSC.

  • Route 166 will operate from Liffey Valley via St. Loman’s Road, Willsbrook Road, Castle Road, Ballyowen Road and Citywest to Tallaght (The Square) Routing is as follows: Tallaght (The Square), Fortunestown Way, Citywest Road, Kingswood Avenue,  Old Naas Road (Brownsbarn), Outer Ring Road, Grange Castle Business Park, Castle Road, Willsbrook Road, St. Loman’s Road, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.

  • Route 210 will no longer operate as a result of the above changes.

Improved punctuality and reliability
All service changes will offer improved punctuality and reliability by maximising the use of bus priority on Quality Bus Corridors, by operating at even frequencies and by managing buses with the use of GPS control systems.
