Q.1 Where can I get an application form?

Application forms are available from the Customer Service desks at Dublin Bus, Upper O Connell St., Dublin 1 or Iarnrod Eireann, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.


Q.2 How do I pay for the card?

There are 4 possible methods of payment:

- Credit / Laser Card (Visa / MasterCard)

- Bank draft

- Postal Order

- Cheque

 

Q.3 Where do I send the completed form?

Q.4 Do I need to include a stamped addressed envelope to have the card returned to me?

No, postage costs are included in the application fee.

 

Q.5 When will I receive my Student Travelcard?

The card will be sent to you within 5 working days of receipt. Allow up to 3 extra days for postage.

 

Q.6 Why does the College Administrator need to stamp the card?

This control measure is in place to ensure that only bona fide third level students can apply for and avail of the discounts associated with the Student Travelcard.

 

Q.7 What happens if I fill in the form incorrectly?

If an incomplete or incorrect form is received it will be rejected and returned to the applicant. An administration fee of €5.00 will apply. You will then need to reapply with the full fee again. Please therefore ensure that you have correctly completed all necessary details on the application form.

 

Q.8 What are Inter City Rail Services?

InterCity services run from Dublin’s Heuston and Connolly Stations to Belfast, Sligo, Ballina, Westport, Galway, Limerick, Ennis, Tralee, Cork, Waterford and Rosslare Europort. Services also run between Rosslare Europort and Limerick; Cork and Tralee; and Cork and Limerick. There are 87 InterCity stations in Ireland. Services are divided into Standard and Superstandard Classes. Trains also have smoking and non-smoking carriages, although the Belfast/Dublin Enterprise service is completely non-smoking.

 

Q.9 What are Commuter Rail Services?

Commuter Rail Services include all DART services and Commuter services, up to 150 kilometres. Please note the discounts refer to the purchase of Weekly and Monthly tickets only on the nominated services.

 

Q.10 Am I eligible for a Student Travelcard?

All full time third level students, who are in tertiary education for a minimum of 20 hours per week, are entitled to apply for a Student Travelcard. This includes trainee Chartered Accountants, trainee Solicitors registered with the Law Society, full time FAS Students i.e. those in a course of at least 6 months duration with a minimum 20 hours classtime per week, and full time PLC students.

 

Q.11 I am 16 years old and still in secondary school. Am I eligible to apply?

Yes. Have the application form stamped and signed by your school. Enclose 2 passport sized photos, one of which should have your name clearly marked on the back. Then send the application with the relevant fee to the address as listed at Question 3 above.

 

Q.12 What is the procedure if my Student Travelcard is lost or stolen?

You will need to complete a new application form, get it signed by the college administrator, attach 2 passport size photos and pay again in full for a replacement card.

 

Q.13 I will be living away from home in student accommodation during term time. Which address should I put on my card?

When the card is issued it will be sent to the address specified on the card. If the card is lost it will be returned to the address on the card. Therefore you should put your term time contact address on the card.

 

Q.14 Do I need to advise of a change of address?

Yes. If your card is lost and handed in to one of our offices it will be returned to the address as listed in our central records. Therefore this address should always be kept up to date.

 

Q.15 Do I need to pay again if I change my address?

No. Change of address does not require a reissue of the card.

 

Q.16 Is the Student Travelcard accepted for discounted travel with any other companies?

Yes, Bus Eireann, Ulsterbus & Northern Ireland Railways will accept the card as proof of student status for discounted fares.
