Dublin Bus Launches 2010 Calendar Top Young Artistic Talent Honoured!
| On Monday, 23rd November, Dublin Bus officially unveiled the winners of the 2010 Dublin Bus Calendar at a special ceremony which was held in Dublin City Council Library, Pearse Street. 40 pieces of colourful paintings and expressive poetry, from some of Dublin’s up and coming artistic talent, feature in the 2010 Calendar and were showcased in a special exhibition to the end of November. |

| The pieces, created by primary school children from 35 schools across the Greater Dublin area, are the result of the annual School’s Art Competition run by Dublin Bus. This year, over 4,000 children from the 35 schools entered the competition with 8 children chosen from each school receiving prizes. A selection of the winning entries was chosen to be displayed in this year’s calendar. The competition promotes the value of public transport in local communities to younger passengers and creates awareness of the negative impact of vandalism on buses for the local community itself. 10,000 Dublin Bus 2010 calendars will be distributed amongst the participating schools, Dublin Bus Staff and elected representatives in the Greater Dublin Area. |
| Speaking at the event Niall Quinn said, “This year Dublin Bus received a large number of entries and the judges had a difficult time deciding which 40 pieces of art to include in the 2010 Dublin Bus Calendar. The annual Dublin Bus School’s Art Competition is a fun, interactive way for kids to engage with us and we hope that, by doing so, they will gain an awareness of the role of public transport within their local community, while having lots of fun in the process! I would like to thank all the schools who submitted entries for this year’s calendar." |
| The Dublin Bus School’s Art Competition began in 2002 with a pilot programme, in the Darndale area, aimed at promoting the concept of respectable public transport amongst school children. Each Dublin Bus depot has a full time School Co-ordinator who visits schools relaying the message to young people how to use and respect public transport in their respective areas. |
