Practical Weather Advice

  1. Expect delays - During periods of severe weather, road conditions can become dangerous which affects the operation of Dublin Bus services. Dublin Bus makes every effort to operate and maintain scheduled services. However, diversions and curtailments may be put in place to ensure the safety of our customers and employees.

  2. Keep informed – There are more ways than ever to keep up to date with the latest information on services.

  3. Wear warm clothes and be visible - Wear layers and High Visibility clothing as it will allow you to be seen and avoid injuries.
  4. Wear clothing that does not restrict your vision - e.g. hoodies, ski masks. This type of clothing may prevent you from seeing icy conditions, which can result in injury.

  5. Wear proper footwear - Wear suitable footwear with proper traction e.g. wellington boots, ski boots.

  6. Approach with caution - All footpaths, roads and surfaces should be approached with caution. Many paths may be covered with a sheet of black ice which may not be clearly visible.

  7. Keep your hands free - Avoid carrying things in your hands while walking in severe weather as this can impede your balance.

  8. Stay safe when walking - It is best to walk on the footpath and not on the street. Use walking apparatus if needed also.

  9. Cross the road carefully - Snow and ice can cause havoc quickly so use extra caution when crossing the road and always cross at pedestrian crossings.

  10. Do not underestimate - Many falls and slips take place in areas that people regard as safe including outside your doorstep, when exiting vehicles and on footpaths. Take your time to avoid injury.

  11. If traffic is not travelling on the road at your bus stop, walk to a bus stop on a main road to access available buses.

  12. Stand back from the curb and allow the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching and boarding the vehicle.

  13. Free Falling - If you feel you may lose your balance, bend your knees and take slower, shorter steps. This will help to reduce the chance of a slip or fall and ultimately an injury.
