Dublin Bus employees donate €1000 award to Cardiac Risk in the Young

Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was presented with a cheque for €1000 by Dublin Bus employees at Ringsend Depot today. The funding will be used in the Centre for Cardiovascular Risk in Younger Persons at Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Tallaght.

Dublin Bus received the Corporate Endeavour Award along with €1000 at South Dublin County Council’s Community Endeavour Awards, for its commitment to supporting community activity. Dublin Bus decided to give the award back to the South Dublin community and asked employees to vote for the organisation which they wanted to receive the grant.

Chief Executive of Dublin Bus, Ray Coyne said ‘We were delighted to be honoured with the Corporate Endeavour Award and took the opportunity to pay it forward and support the communities we serve. The donation will be put to good use by CRY, to continue their great work and we wish them the best with their endeavours’.

Lucia Ebbs, Fundraising Manager for CRY who gratefully accepted the cheque said ‘We were delighted to have been nominated and to go along to Ringsend Depot and meet some of the employees at the presentation. CRY relies on fundraising by families and supporters like Dublin Bus employees. Donations like these are vitally important to help us to continue to support the work carried out in the Centre for Cardiovascular Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP Centre) at Tallaght Hospital’’.

CRY has three main objectives: to raise awareness of the condition known as Sudden Cardiac Death or Sudden Adult Death Syndrome; to provide free counselling and support for families affected by sudden death or cardiac conditions; to support CRYP Centre, where families and individuals can be evaluated in a heart screening service in a timely and systematic fashion without financial cost.

All services provided by CRY are free. CRY is a self-supporting registered charity and is dependent on fund-raising activities and private donations.
