Supporting Dublin’s Community Spirit

Published on Thursday, October 01, 2015

As the largest public transport provider in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), Dublin Bus plays an integral part in the various communities that make up our customer base. It is important to Dublin Bus that we contribute to the communities in which we operate. As part of this commitment we were on hand as Dublin came alive with a cultural buzz. On September 18th the capital’s cultural venues threw open their doors for free visits and tours. Museums, galleries, libraries, parks and many more welcomed visitors for free workshops, readings, demonstrations, performances and tours in an evening of Irish culture.

Dublin Bus was the official transport partner for the event and provided a free shuttle service that operated every 20 minutes from Bachelor’s Walk, Aston Quay, College Green and Parkgate Street, bringing visitors to and from their favourite participating venues.  This free service was fully equipped with on-bus performers. From spoken word artists to Irish singer songwriters, Dublin Bus provided a perfect setting for a night of authentic Irish entertainment.

Our Community Spirit Initiative was recently shortlisted for Chambers Ireland’s Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2015. Dublin Bus was nominated in the ‘Excellence in Community – Community Support’ category.

To round of the month, Dublin Bus held its annual Community Spirit Awards on September 23rd in Croke Park. From over 600 applications, 84 grants were awarded to charities and voluntary groups located throughout the Greater Dublin Area. Guest of honour and presenter on the evening was, patron of the initiative and former Ireland international footballer, Niall Quinn.

Dublin Bus plays a key role in Dublin life. We help ensure that the people that we serve feel safe, connected and part of a sustainable community life in Dublin. The many stories shared at the awards and the work that the volunteer groups do on a daily basis demonstrates the importance of community. Since the initiative started, we have committed funds to over 1,500 volunteer groups and this is something Dublin Bus is privileged to be able to do. Watch the following video to see exactly how local groups have benefited from the funds. http://www.dublinbus.ie/csa/

We are delighted to support such worthy voluntary groups again this year.
