National Transport Authority announces the result of tender of 24 PSO bus routes in Dublin

Published on Thursday, August 10, 2017

Dublin Bus has been notified by the National Transport Authority (NTA) that it has not been successful in the tender process to operate 24 of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) bus routes in the Dublin metropolitan area.

Commenting on the announcement, Ray Coyne, Dublin Bus CEO stated; “It is disappointing to learn that Dublin Bus has not been successful in this tender process and we will examine the outcome closely. We submitted a high quality, competitive bid based on our years of experience in operating these routes. Dublin Bus will work closely with the NTA over the coming months and will minimise any impact on our customers’ experience.

I welcome the reassurance given by the NTA today that there will be no job losses as a result of this process. The dedication of all employees in delivering our service for our customers has resulted in Dublin Bus delivering growth in customer numbers since 2012. This trend is set to continue with customer numbers on track to exceed 130 million by the end of 2017. Our focus remains on providing a network of services which is safe, efficient and reliable for the people of Dublin and on exceeding our commitments under our current PSO Contract.

We will continue to improve and innovate. Over the next 3 months, 100 new buses will be introduced into the Dublin Bus fleet. 30 of these buses will provide additional peak time capacity for our customers and 70 of these buses will replace older buses in the fleet. This will further enhance the capacity, comfort and reliability of our services for our customers.

We are also engaging with the NTA on the recently announced BusConnects project which is a commitment to invest €1 billion in the city’s bus network and will benefit our customers and the city of Dublin into the future.”
