Niall Quinn helps Dublin Bus Award Grants to Over 80 Charities and Voluntary Groups.

On Wednesday 26th September, Dublin Bus awarded grants ranging from €1,000 to €5,000 to over 80 charities and voluntary groups across the Greater Dublin Area under its Community Spirit Initiative. A special exhibition ceremony, hosted by former international footballer Niall Quinn, took place last night where the short listed groups were honoured for all their hard work and their valuable contribution to their local communities.

Now in its ninth year, the event saw a wide variety of charities in the Greater Dublin Area receive funding under the scheme which helps these organisations to maintain and grow their services. To date over 1,100 local community groups have benefited from this initiative.

As part of the ceremony, Niall Quinn made a special presentation to 5 community groups who were awarded grants of €5,000. This year’s recipients of €5,000 include Tallaght Cancer Support Group, Balscadden District Community Council, 3 Bridges Boxing Club Ballymun,  The Carers Association Clondalkin and Ballyowen Meadows School, Loughlinstown. In addition to this, over 70 other charities also received grants of €2,000 or €1,000.

Commenting on the award winners, Patron of the Community Spirit Initiative, Niall Quinn, said, “It is evident from the winning groups present here today that the recession has not dampened Dublin’s tradition of community spirit. I have been involved with the Dublin Bus’ Community Spirit Initiative as its patron since it began, over nine years ago, and I have seen first hand the difference these grants can make to local community groups whose work, though so important, often goes unnoticed. I want to congratulate all the grant recipients and commend them on all their hard work. This day is for you, you deserve it.”
